If it has no instinct, can it still do the sport?
It can, but it will be harder and less natural. Instinct gives speed and pleasure to the learning. Without it, many teams choose another discipline - and they are right to.

A short assessment that answers a single question: does your dog have the instinct its breed was created for? It takes minutes and tells you whether it is worth going further.
About the discipline
What instinct tests are
Instinct tests are short, controlled assessments that check whether a dog shows the behaviour its breed was selected for: driving livestock, chasing prey, entering water, working with its nose.
The dog is placed, safely, in the relevant situation - a few sheep in a pen, a moving lure, a stretch of water - and its reaction is observed.
The result does not say a dog is good or poor. It only says whether the natural inclination is there, which helps in choosing the right discipline and saves years of training in the wrong direction.
How it works in practice

- the reaction is assessed, not the execution
A negative result is not a verdict. Many show lines have lost their working instinct, which in no way prevents a dog from excelling in other disciplines.

Common questions about Instinct Tests
From what age can a dog be tested?
Usually after six months, when behaviour has taken shape. Tests done too early give unreliable results.
Is it stressful for the dog?
No, if it is run properly. The tests are short, the animals are used to dogs, and any sign of real discomfort stops the assessment.
