Mantrailing & Obedience Exams

Mantrailing and obedience exams validate the real level of preparation of the dog-handler team and provide an objective framework for evaluation, progress, and official recognition.

Mantrailing is more than a canine sport or a recreational activity—it is a discipline that reflects the real level of preparation of a dog-handler team. Taking a mantrailing exam is an important step in your development, confirming the work you have put in, your steady progress, and your ability to handle standardized, objectively evaluated scenarios.

We encourage all mantrailing practitioners to test their skills through exams, because they provide a clear evaluation framework, well-defined goals, and valuable feedback from accredited judges. An exam is not only about the result—it is also about experience, self-control, managing emotions, and strengthening trust within your team.

However, to reach a solid level in mantrailing, it is essential to build on correct fundamentals. Obedience and social behavior play a crucial role, especially in real-world, urban, or operational contexts. A dog that can focus, ignore distractions, and remain balanced around people and other dogs will have a clear advantage in both training and exams.

For this reason, we strongly recommend taking foundational tests such as:

• TSAC - Sociability and Canine Aptitude Test, which evaluates the dog's behavior in everyday situations and social adaptability;
• BH (Begleithund), an internationally recognized test focused on basic obedience, control, and emotional stability.

For BH and TSAC, participants are encouraged to check the national events list to find dates and locations across Romania where these tests are organized by authorized clubs or associations.

As for mantrailing exams, they can be taken either through IRO (International Rescue Dog Organisation) events or through exams organized by accredited associations that follow clear evaluation and safety standards. Participating in such exams offers official recognition, opens opportunities for further development, and can be an important step toward advanced or even operational levels.

In the end, taking an exam—whether obedience or mantrailing—should not be seen as pressure, but as an opportunity for growth. It is a chance to test your limits, learn, validate your work, and become part of a responsible community focused on progress, education, and respect for the dog.

If you are ready to take the next step with your dog, look for the right events, prepare thoroughly, and step confidently into the world of mantrailing exams. Your journey deserves recognition.
