Oradea - open terrain, ideal for starting out in mantrailing

Oradea and its surroundings offer an ideal training environment for teams beginning their mantrailing journey. The Western Plain means predominantly flat and open terrain - a combination that allows dogs to work without major obstacles and handlers to clearly follow the dog's signals from a distance. This is exactly the type of terrain recommended for the first months of training, when both dog and handler are learning to work together.

Beyond the terrain, Oradea has a unique geographical advantage: proximity to the Hungarian border. This position allows teams from Bihor County to access K9 certification events organised in Hungary far more easily than teams from the rest of Romania who face several hundred extra kilometres of travel.

Oradea's advantage for international certifications

Teams from Oradea have direct access to K9 certifications in Hungary - a mantrailing dog evaluation system with a long tradition and international recognition. The short distance to the Hungarian border makes attending these exams logistically straightforward, compared to teams from elsewhere in Romania who travel several hundred kilometres more.

Alongside K9 certifications, teams from Oradea can also prepare for TSAC, BH and IRO examinations - with full support available from the Mantrailing Romania community.

How to join the Oradea group

The Oradea group is active and welcomes both handlers with dogs and volunteers without one. If this is your first encounter with mantrailing and you want to see how it works before getting fully involved, you can attend a session as an observer or layer - no dog needed.

You don't need a specific breed, prior training experience or professional equipment to get started. A basic harness, a 5–7 metre leash and your dog's natural curiosity are enough for the first session.
